HOW TO SHUT DOWN VERNACULAR SCHOOLS

MARCH 27 — Let’s assume for a moment that the debate pertaining the existence of vernacular schools is settled — this hypothetical government has decided that it’s time to shut them down. Taking into account the current political climate, how do you think we should go about it?

That was just a thought exercise. But seriously, has anybody really given it much thought? The recent Dong Zong rally puts the issue of vernacular schools back into our national discourse and probably with an amplifier considering the election is supposedly around the corner.
The central issue raised was the failure of the current administration in dealing with the acute shortage of Chinese-educated teachers for the Chinese vernacular schools. It was insinuated that this was part of a larger ploy to force these schools to change their medium of instruction and thus setting off the domino effect of its demise.
This led me to the question that I raised at the beginning. If indeed this were a genuine ploy, I would have to say that it is indeed a very comical strategy. I don’t see how “starving the beast — slowly but surely” could ever work. We know for sure that vernacular schools aren’t merely a formal education system to their proponents, they are a sceptre of cultural identification and perpetuation.
ooppss!!...they are too demanding and too much!!

DONG ZONG WANTS ONLY CHINESE-SPEAKING TEACHERS AT VERNACULAR SCHOOLS

THE Education Ministry should remove all newly-assigned non Chinese-speaking teachers and those who did not have Chinese language qualification, including Malay and English teachers, from Chinese vernacular schools, the Chinese dailies reported.

The demand was among four resolutions that were passed by Dong Zong (the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia) during a rally to protest against the shortage of teachers in Chinese vernacular schools.

Dong Zong also wants teachers with the right qualifications, who had earlier been transferred out, to return to these schools.

ooppss!!....Why DZ is so Chinese-oriented? We as Malaysians shouldn't be too clannish, we should be more open-minded because is is for our children's own good.

ALL EYES ON SEPTEMBER NOW

PUTRAJAYA: September has now emerged as a likely month for the coming general election with many arguments put up against the earlier speculation of June.

One contention is that several issues will need some time to be resolved. Then, there are the travel plans of the Prime Minister which seems to rule out the June polls.

It is understood that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to visit the United States in the second week of May, where he is expected to meet officials of the Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council in New York.

ooppss!!...Only Allah knows when is the GE is to take place. Our duty is to go to the polling station and vote the candidate that cares for the people not for his own benefits.

Mat Sabu: I convinced Abdul Kadir to quit Umno

KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — Mohamad Sabu has claimed he talked former Information Minister Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir into quitting Umno after the latter accused the ruling party of buying votes early this year.

The PAS deputy president, who is better known as Mat Sabu, said he was now negotiating with other Umno leaders to follow in Abdul Kadir’s footsteps, although he stopped short of revealing their names as well as the details of the talks, Berita Harian reported today.

“I support the right actions taken by Umno leaders... that is why Umno leaders like me. The one who likes me most is (Abdul) Kadir Sheikh Fadzir,” he was quoted as saying in a speech in Jitra last night.

Raja hanya tingaal nama sahaja. Inikah yang anda mahu wahai orang Melayu?
