PKR apologises over K-Pop dance
GEORGE TOWN
ON Sunday, the usually quiet and rather conservative rural town was rudely shaken when a group of K-Pop dancers took to the stage with provocative outfits and moves during the PKR Bertam-organised fundraising event.
TOO MUCH: Penang PKR admitted that the K-Pop dance performance was not appropriate for the event, which comprised largely Muslims
Although it would not raise an eyebrow in urban areas, the dance , as well as short and sleeveless apparel did not settle well with diners, most of whom were largely conservative Muslims from the surrounding villages on the mainland.
State PKR information chief Johari Kassim yesterday apologised for the performance and that the party was not aware of KPop dance routine during the Bertam Nite dinner.
“The night was supposed to feature a line-up traditional dances of all three races in the country but when I saw the performance, I was shocked and immediately called off the dance before apologising to the audience,” he said.
Johari, who was the patron of the organising committee, said the evening went according to plan and the K-Pop routine could have been a last minute slot-in.
“The dance was an error due to miscommunication and misunderstanding on the event’s concept,” he said at a press conference called by State PKR chief and Deputy Chief Minister (I) Datuk Mansor Othman.
