Police BAN on 'Save Felda Orange Assembly'

KUALA LUMPUR, -- Police have banned the proposed 'Save Felda Orange Assembly" from gathering at the Federal Territory (FT) Mosque in Jalan Duta on Saturday because the location is listed as a restricted area under the Peaceful assembly Act 2012. Sentul police chief ACP Zakaria Pagan said access via Jalan Duta en route to Istana Negara was also prohibited, for security reasons. "The traffic on Jalan Duta could pose high risks to the participants as well as the motorists plying the road. "The organisers have also been informed that Istana Negara has been gazetted as a restricted area under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959," he said in a statement here today. Zakaria said the matter had been relayed to the organisers during two meetings with them on July 6 and 9. The organiser, Gerakan Selamatkan Felda, intended to have the assembly at 2 pm this Saturday and called on participants to gather at the FT Mosque and march onward to Istana Negara along Jalan Duta. The assembly purportedly aimed to hand over a memorandum of protest to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah over Felda Global Ventures Holdings' listing on Bursa Malaysia.
