Extending windfall to second wives, ex-wives reasonable
EMERLOH (June 18, 2012): Felda's decision to divide a windfall of RM5,000 equally, is well received by the women folk of Felda settlements, describing it as apt and reasonable on humanitarian grounds.
A settler's wife, Rahimah Daud, 61, from Felda Sebertak, near here, said although the windfall should be given to the first wife, the second or ex-wife should also be entitled to receive the money.
"It is good that the money is divided equally for each of them to enjoy the benefit given by the government. After all, the money is unexpected and should be divided equally," she said.
Yesterday, Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad said the settlers' wives were expected to receive their windfall of RM5,000 next month.
Isa said if the settlers had two wives or were divorced, the money would be divided equally among the wives and ex-wives.
Chik Rahmah Mat Akil, 54, from Felda Mayam, Bera, said second wives who would also receive the windfall, should not be arrogant, but should be thankful because if they were not married to the settlers, they would never receive the money.
"Whatever the government is doing with the money to be divided equally, proves that the government is considerate and fair," she said.
Siti Zaleha Hamid, 56, from Felda Bukit Kepayang, Bera, said the settlers should be thankful to the government and Felda, and especially to the prime minister, who decided to give a windfall of RM15,000 to heads of the family, wives and children.
"It is not easy for the government to divide the money, especially when the settlers' land are not involved in the (FGVH) listing.
People in other countries do not have the same opportunity accorded to the settlers.
"Not just the windfall, but also given 800 units of share in Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGVH) for their future," Siti Zaleha said. – Bernama
