If not careful, Wanita chief Shahrizat could be facing perfect storm in polls

Despite her apparent popularity among members of the women's wing, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (pic) may find herself battling to be re-elected Umno Wanita chief this time, say analysts.
They cited three factors that could create a perfect storm to upend her.
One is her alleged links to a cattle-farming scandal through her family's involvement in the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC).
Another is the mood for young blood and the change that is currently sweeping through Umno, with several unexpected last-minute challenges to senior contestants.
The third is the serious contender that appeared just 10 minutes before nominations closed last Saturday, making it a three-way challenge for the Wanita Umno chief’s post.
At the last minute, former deputy human resources minister Datuk Maznah Mazlan stepped into the fray.
The other contender is Kulim Bandar Baru Wanita chief and lawyer Raihan Sulaiman Palestin, a relative lightweight who threw her hat into the ring earlier.
All eyes are on Maznah, the assemblyperson for Muadzam Shah widely regarded as a staunch ally of Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, the leader Shahrizat ousted.
Shortly after Maznah announced her entry into the fight, Rafidah described the contest as “refreshing” but denied Maznah was her proxy.
Jarumemas: May the best woman win.
