Selangor likely to stop Batu Caves condo project, state exco hints

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 – Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu today hinted that the state government would likely pull the plug on the controversial luxury condominium project near Batu Caves, after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak promised this morning to scrap the project if the opposition Barisan Nasional (BN) came to power in the next general elections.

Najib, in his speech at MIC’s Deepavali open house at Batu Caves, had promised to stop the project should BN successfully recapture Selangor in the next polls.

In response, Liu said: “He already knows we are stopping it. So he announced it first.”

When asked to confirm the Selangor government’s plans to stop the project, however, Liu , who is in charge of local government, research and development, stopped short.

He noted that the state government has already set up a taskforce to look into the matter and issued a temporary stop work order on the project, adding that these steps were “as good as stopping it (the project)”.
