BN sounds election siren
GEORGE TOWN
GETTING THE BALL ROLLING: Teng congratulates Omar on his appoinment as Penang BN election machinery director
THE state Barisan Nasional (BN) will launch its election machinery by the middle of the month.
State BN chief Teng Chang Yeow said it would be given a month to line up 40 "cyber-troopers and ground soldiers" to spread the coalition’s message as part of its war-cry Semboyan Dibunyikan (Siren Has Been Rung).
“Our war drums have sounded. We have several activities under this programme," he said.
"They include enlisting the help of the print and alternative media to clear doubts and counter inaccuracies by Pakatan Rakyat to create awareness and paint a correct picture to Penangites.
“We will also print leaflets to inform people on issues, such as low-cost housing, press freedom and traffic problems, as part of our strategy.”
He said based on the BN information committee's recommendations, they would highlight the state government’s inaccuracies and disparaging statements on the coalition within 10 days.
Asked if cyber-troopers would be effective at scouring online media and act fast to counter criticisms, he spoke confidently that the 40 of them should be able to do the job well.
Speaking after chairing the second State BN meeting, Teng said these issues under the strategic programme and the rest of BN’s election plans would be revealed in time to come.
